IBPS PO 2016 Mains Exam Analysis :The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) conducted the Mains Examination for the recruitment of Probationary Officer/Management Trainee across the country on November 20, 2016. There were 200 questions in the paper, which had to be answered in 2 hours 20 minutes. There were five sections in all – Reasoning, English Language, Quantitative Aptitude, General Awareness. Each question had 5 options. The exam had sectional timings; therefore, the candidates had to be pretty fast to answers the questions. The test carried 200 marks. For every wrong response, one fourth or 0.25 marks will be deducted. This year the paper was of Difficult level. There were 4 seating arrangements and puzzles in reasoning. English Language and Quantitative was of Moderate to Difficult level.

Sectional Analysis


This section primarily will see questions that will be moderate to difficult in terms of difficulty. There will be questions on Data Sufficiency, Sitting Arrangements (Linear), CR, Input-Output, Mathematical Inequality, Statement-Conclusions, Seating Arrangements (Circular) and Syllogisms.

English Language

The overall difficulty level of this section will be moderate to easy. There will be questions on Para jumbles, Sentence Correction, RC and Cloze Test. There were Sentence Fillers and 2 Reading Comprehension. The Reading Comprehension was based on the Infrastructure Investment, Informal Economy to formal Economy.

Quantitative Aptitude

This section might see moderate to difficult questions. There will be questions from Data Sufficiency, Series, Line Graphs, Direction, Blood Relations, profit and Loss. There were three sets of DI. The DI was of Pie=Chart, Missing DI and Caselette.

General Awareness (with special reference to Banking) This section was of “Moderate” as compared to the other sections. Banking and Economy dominated this section. Questions in Current Affairs were asked from International affairs as well as Indian Economy Questions related to RBI were given a special attention. The topics are as follows:

Candidate's Feedback on the exam

"The Reasoning and English section was difficult. The General Awareness Section was easy whereas the Computer Knowledge section was moderate to difficult. The Quantitative Aptitude section was difficult and time consuming. My total attempt is 107. Hoping for the best," said Jessica Kaul (a candidate from Delhi)

"My total Attempt is 115. I have attempted 21 questions from Reasoning, 22 from English, 30 from GA, 17 from Computer section and 25 from Maths section. The Pattern of ENglish Section was similar as SBI PO Mains," said Rita Diwedi (A candidates from Bihar)

Calculation of Scores in IBPS PO Mains Exam

  • The corrected scores obtained by each of the candidates in different sessions (if held) will be normalized using equi-percentile method.

  • Scores up to two decimal points shall be taken for the purpose of calculations

Declaration of IBPS PO 2016 Result

IBPS will announce the result of IBPS PO Mains Examination in December 2016. The scores of the Mains Examination will be shared with the candidates after the completion of entire recruitment process. Based on the IBPS 2016 PO result for mains, around 35, 000 to 40,000 candidates (3 to 4 times of the total available vacancies) will be called for interview process.
