IIT JEE 2019 Eligibility Criteria

Introduction: NTA (National Test Agency) releases the IIT-JEE Main 2019 eligibility criteria with the IIT-JEE 2019 application form.

Interested candidates need to check the IIT-JEE eligibility criteria 2019 if they want to fill the IIT JEE application form. IIT JEE Main eligibility criteria 2019 depend upon the following parameters:

  • B.Arch. programmes- 50% marks in PCM (separately & aggregate)

Candidates need to note that eligibility criteria of IIT JEE eligibility criteria Main 2019 is to give them a gist as to if they are eligible to apply for the national entrance exam. The conducting authority is NTA and not CBSE hence two attempts in January and April will be given. The attempts yearly are 3 in consecutive attempts.

Note: Candidates who have registered should check IIT JEE Main 2019 exam city: October 19 onwards.

IIT JEE Main 2019 Paper I is to be conducted on the dates of the month of January-9, 10, 11 & 12, 2019, and Paper II will be conducted on January 8. The IIT JEE application form Main 2019 for the 1st attempt was available from September 1st. 2nd attempt at IIT JEE Main 2019 is from the month of April-6 to 20, 2019. For this attempt the IIT JEE application form 2019 will be available from February 8th to March 7th, 2019

The candidates are eligible for the IIT JEE Main 2019 on the basis of the following provided parameters:

  • Date of birth 

  • Qualifying exam i.e. 10+2 or equivalent exam 

  • Qualifying exam- Subjects

  • Marks secured

 No age limit. Candidates need to pass 12th or the equivalent exam in 2017 or 2018 and candidates appearing for 12th or equivalent exam in 2019 are also eligible.

Qualifying exam

  • Candidates must have passed 12th standard in 2017 or 2018.

  • Candidates appearing for 12th or equivalent exam in 2019 are eligible.

Subjects

  • Mandatory to have 5 subjects in 12th standard or equivalent qualifying exam-

For B.Tech/ B.E. are: Physics, Mathematics, Language, Chemistry/ Biology/ Biotechnology/Technical Vocational Subject, any other subject.

For B.Arch/ B.Planning are: Physics, Mathematics (compulsory), Language, Chemistry/ Biology/ Biotechnology/Technical Vocational Subject, any other subject.

No. of attempts

Attempts can be done in 3 consecutive years. And candidates can appear in both the attempts of that very year. The attempt of that academic year is considered one.


 

Eligibility criteria for admissions in NITs/ IIITs/ GFTIs:

  • Minimum 75% marks in 12th standard or equivalent exam or be in the top 20 percentile in their 12th standard exam.

  • SC/ ST candidates: 65% marks in 12th standard equivalent exam.

Admissions in B.Arch. programmes:

  • Mandatory subjects in 12th standard: PCM

  • Minimum marks: 50% marks in total and 50% for each subject separately.

IIT JEE Main Eligibility Criteria 2019 for Qualifying Examination (QE)

  • 12th standard or any other equivalent exam by Central/ State board- CBSE, ICSE, Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi etc.

  • Intermediate/Pre-University Course/Pre-Degree Course examination

  • Final examination- Joint Services Wing (NDA).

  • Voc. Exam- H.S.C.

  • NIO- Senior Secondary School Examination (min. 5 subjects).

  • AICTE/State board of technical educational-Diploma (3 years).

  • AIU school/board/university examination in India/ foreign country equivalent to 12th standard exam.

  • GCE exam (London/ Cambridge/ Sri Lanka) at Advanced (A) level; for only IITs.

  • HSCE- Cambridge University/International Baccalaureate Diploma; for only IITs.

JEE Main Eligibility Criteria 2019 for Year of appearance in Qualifying Examination (QE):

Candidates must have passed 12th standard in 2017 or 2018. Candidates appearing for 12th or equivalent exam in 2019 are eligible. The candidates with earlier passing of these exams are not eligible. The Candidates failing in 12th standard in 2016, appearing in 2017 and passed are not eligible.

Subjects in the Qualifying Examination (QE)

The five mandatory subjects for B.Tech/ B.E. according to CBSE are as follows:

  • Language

  • Physics (compulsory for B.Arch.)

  • Mathematics (compulsory for B.Tech & B.Arch. both)

  • Chemistry/Biology/Biotechnology/Technical Vocational Subject

  • Any other subject

Candidates appearing for 4 subjects in their qualifying exam are not eligible for IIT JEE 2019. The subjects apart from these are not eligible subjects for the application: Physics, Mathematics (compulsory for B.Arch), Language, Chemistry/ Biology/ Biotechnology/Technical Vocational Subject, any other subject.

Pass percentage: The IIT JEE Main 2019 eligibility critera doesn’t release any percentage for application for the exam. The depends on the state-wise percentages hence no specific percentage is kept for the IIT JEE eligibility criteria Main 2019.

Aadhaar Card: If there is no presence of Adhar card with the candidate then he or she can use the following identity proofs:

  • Passport

  • Ration card

  • Bank account

  • Any other valid Govt. identity number.

JEE Main 2019 Eligibility Criteria- Admissions to NITs, IIITs and CFTIs -

For B.Tech admissions in NITs, IIITs and GFTIS: Minimum marks to be scored 75% marks in qualifying exam in addition to qualifying JEE Main 2019 or be in top 20 percentile of their 12thstandard board.

For B.Arch/ B.Planning Admissions: Mathematics is compulsory subject with 75% marks in total including 5 subjects and in addition to qualifying in JEE Main Paper II. 

JEE Main Eligibility Criteria (Droppers):

Droppers are classified into 2 categories.

1st category- Droppers with a year after completing their 12th standard examination to focus on JEE Main.

2nd category- Candidates who did not qualify JEE Main and dropped a year while preparing. The IIT JEE eligibility criteria main 2019 for droppers is given below.

Dropping and preparing needs to be sufficient enough to show the hard work to get admissions into IIT, NIT, IIIT or CFTIs.

JEE Main Eligibility Criteria (Droppers) 2019

  • No age limit.

  • Completion of 12th standard qualifying examination in 2017 or 2018.

  • Dropped candidates of 2nd category attempting IIT JEE should be there.

  • For NITs, IIITs and CFTIs- minimum 75% or be in the top 20 percentile of their respective boards

  • For SC/ST category- minimum 65%.

  • At the very least 5 subjects and Physics and Mathematics must be compulsory for 12th standard or equivalent exam.

Details about Improvement Examination:

After being eligible for the IIT JEE 2019 the except for the percentage for admissions into NITs, IIITs and CFTIs, the candidates are then allowed for the improvement exam.

  • Improvement in 1 or more subject – In improvement in 2019 for one subject, the top 20 percentile of 2018 is to be considered. Calculation is done according to the maximum marks obtained in the respective subjects

  • Improvement in all subjects – Here in this case best of both the years is to be considered.
